In other news, not that it’s really worth mentioning, but I’ll be turning 30 next week (yikes!).  I’ve always heard 30 is one of those milestone birthdays, people freak out and do crazy things to commemorate (aka avoid) the occasion.  I’m not freaking out in the slightest, should I be worried about that?  And I’m not feeling some dire need to jump out of a plane, should I be?  What did all of you do for your 30th birthday?  Or, if you’re still a youngling, what would you do on your 30th?

Maybe I’ll celebrate it in another city since we are trekking up to San Francisco at the end of this month.  We’ve got 2 weddings up there…so excited!  Anyway, I’m open to suggestions on how to usher in a new decade of my life.

We are very lucky this last image came out.  This was shot this past Monday evening, just minutes before my Nanay (grandmother) took her last breath.  My grandmother died at the ripe old age of 91 after a long and wonderful life.

I’m excited and freaked out at the same time…I’m actually going to be showing my photography at an art show this Saturday!  Giselle Anguizola, founder of GirlJam California, is hosting an entire weekend that celebrates the role of women and their contribution to early American dance, specifically roots jazz culture.  To compliment this event, she is hosting an evening presentation of the arts at the Sister Lodge in North Park, immediately following Ray at Night (an art festival held every second Saturday of the month in North Park, San Diego).

Giselle has kindly asked me, as a local female photographer, to show some of my photographs.  And I am so proud to do so!  If you happen to be coming out for Ray at Night this Saturday, please stop by and say hi!  Or just come out to the show anyway to see my work, a few other local female artists, and learn lots about women in dance history! Here is the info:

Long story short, we quickly packed our bags and headed out to play with our new toys!  Location of choice: La Jolla Cove, Subject of choice: Phil Paik of Phil Paik Studios.  Experimenting with lighting is SO MUCH FUN!!!  Here are a few of our mad scientist lighting experiments:

The newest tradition to Christmas this year is our makeshift photo booth.  We found a blank wall in the living room, set up one light, and snapped away the whole day.  Here are a few fun photos, I’ll post the full gallery soon!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season – and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

It’s Wednesday, which means for most people, the week is half over. But for me, since I bow to the laws of rounding, it’s already rounded up to Friday! I can’t help it, I have so much stuff to look forward to this weekend! Friday I get to tag along on an architectural shoot with the incredibly talented Larny J. Mack. Saturday I get to shoot a wedding, and Sunday an engagement session!

Oh, by the way, the little widget above is telling you all about the [b] school.  It’s a new online networking community for photographers, and I’m really excited to sign-up. From the way things are looking, I think it will be a treasure trove of knowledge and resources.

Before I go, of course I want to post a few pictures. This weekend we visited my mom in MoVal (Moreno Valley) to do a little work around the house and celebrate Tiffany’s birthday with her. Tiff’s birthday was actually August 21st, but we just had to celebrate it with my mom. What celebration isn’t complete without a pitcher?! Here’s me, Tiff, my mom, and our good friend Isaac. Yes I know we’re blurry, but you’d want to be blurry too if you had been moving stuff and sweating all day.
