Christmas Day Fun!

Christmas for our family is all about relaxing, eating, and most importantly…taking pictures!  This year we all congregated at my mom’s house in Moreno Valley.  I got to catch up with all my cousins (we rarely get together these days) eat my mom’s pancit (which I think is the best), watch Juno for the first time (one of the funniest, cutest, and coolest movies I’ve seen), and just take some time to unwind.

The newest tradition to Christmas this year is our makeshift photo booth.  We found a blank wall in the living room, set up one light, and snapped away the whole day.  Here are a few fun photos, I’ll post the full gallery soon!

Not all the cousins could make it this year, but at least the cool ones made it:

New Website!!!

We’ve been shacking up in this cozy little spot known as FeliciLivesHere.com for a while now.  While we love it to death, it is time to take the next big step.  That’s why we’ve been hard at work on our new website: FeliciPhotography.com!  This new site will give us a chance to really strut and show our stuff.  But don’t worry, the blog isn’t going anywhere, it will continue to be updated at least 3 times per week.

So check it out! FeliciPhotography.com!  We are still working on the “Bio” page, it’s gonna be super cool!

It’s Time to Give

This is a joyous time of year. A time to celebrate the season, our family and a time to truly reflect and appreciate what we have. For some people however, the holidays are a reminder of personal struggles.

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $1000 worth, to be exact. Whether it’s a canvas, albums, prints for Grandma, or a wall portrait…it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a complementary session as well as a $200 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:

  1. You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
  2. The nominee must reside in San Diego county. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself.

Comment on this blog entry to let me know you’ve entered, and e-mail me the full story: marissa@feliciphotography.com

The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve…get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season – and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

It’s Wednesday, Shouldn’t You [b] in school

It’s Wednesday, which means for most people, the week is half over. But for me, since I bow to the laws of rounding, it’s already rounded up to Friday! I can’t help it, I have so much stuff to look forward to this weekend! Friday I get to tag along on an architectural shoot with the incredibly talented Larny J. Mack. Saturday I get to shoot a wedding, and Sunday an engagement session!

Oh, by the way, the little widget above is telling you all about the [b] school.  It’s a new online networking community for photographers, and I’m really excited to sign-up. From the way things are looking, I think it will be a treasure trove of knowledge and resources.

Before I go, of course I want to post a few pictures. This weekend we visited my mom in MoVal (Moreno Valley) to do a little work around the house and celebrate Tiffany’s birthday with her. Tiff’s birthday was actually August 21st, but we just had to celebrate it with my mom. What celebration isn’t complete without a pitcher?! Here’s me, Tiff, my mom, and our good friend Isaac. Yes I know we’re blurry, but you’d want to be blurry too if you had been moving stuff and sweating all day.

What’s My Name?!

Hung Tran, baby! That’s what I’m talkin’ about! Check out this rockstar glam shot of my boy and fellow photographer Hung C. Tran. Ain’t he fresh?

Free to Succeed Tour

No, Free to Succeed is not a new band, nor does it have anything to do with Rafael Nadal.  But if it was I think it would sound like a combination of Green Day (”Time of Your Life”), The Postal Service (”Such Great Heights”), The Sundays (”Summertime”), and The Kooks (”Bus Song”).  Don’t ask me why I picked those bands or those songs, that’s just what I think of when I think of the people I met today at the Free to Succeed Tour.

David Jay and Jasmine Star, two awesome wedding photographers and all around super cool people, are touring the country to share their knowledge and experience with other wedding photographers.  Along with sharing so many good workflow tips and marketing strategies, they really hit home with me on two notes.  Creating freedom in our lives is huge and creating time for ourselves and for the things most important to us in life - this is a goal for me and I feel very inspired after hearing DJ talk about this.  Secondly, Jasmine’s adamant demand to Keep It Real!  It’s really important to Jojo and I that our business always reflects exactly who we are.  So if I dress up next year at Comic-Con, you better believe I’m posting pictures of myself in costume!

On a completely unrelated note, I feel it necessary to congratulate Rafael Nadal and his rippling biceps on finally becoming the number one tennis player in the world!!! Yihoo!  Federer’s reign is over, Rafa is taking his place as number one at the strapping young age of 22.  VAMOS RAFA!!!  I want so badly to buy a ticket to Flushing Meadows, New York so I can see Rafa play his first Grand Slam as #1 in the world!

Caught in the act

Yes folks, I’ve been caught in the act.  But it’s not what you might think, I was caught in the act of photography!  Our fellow photographer and good friend, Hung C. Tran, sneakily grabbed these shots of me during an engagement shoot this past weekend.  You so sneaky Hung!  You can see his original post here.

BBQ Smackdown 2008

The first annual BBQ Smackdown is taking place right here in San Diego on August 4th, 2008.  This Balboa Park picnic, put together by Carey Schumacher and Skipernicus, is an event for photographers to get together, have some fun, and get to know each other.

The best thing about BBQ Smackdown is that all the proceeds go towards the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation  (NILMDTS).  This amazing foundation has a network of over 5,000 volunteer photographers, ready to document the shortest of lives, the life of a baby born and lost.  A time of rejoicing and new life is sometimes turned upside down into a time of grieving.  You can read more about the cause here.

If there are any other photographers out there interested in going to the Smackdown, let me know!
