Poppin’ My Clutch Never Felt So Good

I’m heading back home from La Jolla today…uh oh…the bike’s not starting. I love my 2002 Suzuki SV650, aka My Pretty Pony, but this is the second time she didn’t start on me this month! What to do??? When in doubt, POP THE CLUTCH!

Not as easy as it sounds. I end up pushing my bike around the Bird Rock neighborhood for 15 minutes, just trying to find a steep enough hill to get the bike up to speed. I drag that thing through a busy roundabout intersection, because it would not frakkin’ shift up into neutral!!! My left hand on the clutch, right hand on the break, hoping these La Jollans would slow down and stop for me…some did…most didn’t.

Finally at the top of a hill, I hop on My Pretty Pony and start edging down the hill. Faster…need more speed…almost there…now POP THE CLUTCH! The sweetest sound I ever heard is that engine turning over as I start approaching the end of a culdesac that drops off a cliff into the Pacific Ocean! With a resounding cry of triumph, I rev the engine as high as I can and head home.

Time to replace that battery? Maybe. Lesson to learn here is, when in doubt, pop your clutch.
