Random Post on a Thursday

I am compelled to write this morning, about anything and everything.  But I’ll spare you the usual crazy ramblings that rattle around in my head and just stick to the important stuff.  The reason I have to say something is because Mayor Sanders and the City Council are moving to drastically reduce the hours at the Balboa Park Activity Center.  This affects me, and so many of my friends, in a huge way.

If you don’t already know, Jojo and I are HUGE table tennis junkies, and the BPAC is our hangout of choice.  Actually, it’s one of the top table tennis facilities in the nation with a bunch of nationally ranked players and world famous coaches!  Not so long ago, we used to haunt this place 5 or 6 days a week…playing weekly tournaments, grudge matches with friends, and hard core training for big competitions like the US Open or US Nationals.  This reduction in hours will leave us all on the street, we have to stop them from cutting hours!

I admit, I haven’t even played pong since this past July because we’ve been non-stop busy with wedding season.  But now that wedding season is coming to a close for the year, I might be lucky enough to return to the sport I am so passionate about.  We’ll see if our petitions and letters can make a difference.

In other news, I went to a concert at the Belly Up last night with my friends Stellan and Angie Bengtsson.  I’m not a huge country fan, but Rodney Crowell and friends were just some dang good music!  Joined on the fiddle by Jenny Scheinman and on the acoustic guitar by Jed Huges, Rodney tore it up last night and played for 3 hours!  Beautiful harmonies, sweet melodies, rich voices, and hilarious lyrics.  I loved every minute of this show!

Just found out, Jojo got me the Family Guy Collection for Christmas, every episode ever!!!

Congratulations to Daryl for winning first place in the Under 1400 event and second place in Under 1500 at the Power Pong tournament!

Lastly, we are getting ready for Thanksgiving in New Jersey.  That means flying 3,000 miles to freezing weather, and I don’t have a single warm sweater or jacket!  We’ll be visiting Jojo’s parents and his twin brother’s brand new baby boy!

Rachel & Jared ~ Engaged

We are cuckoo for these two crazy kids!  Rachel’s boundless energy and Jared’s spontaneity had us gasping for breath trying to keep up.  They are so perfect for each other.  I see it in the way they feed off each other’s playfulness, the subtle hilarious looks they give each other, and the warmth that emanates whenever Jared takes Rachel in his arms.

Wedding ~ Taz & Guy ~ San Diego, CA

It all started with an empty chair at a training seminar.  Both Marites and Guy were working with FEMA in 2006.  The day that Taz (aka Tess) took that empty seat next to Guy was the day their paths converged, never to separate.  Not wasting any time, Guy quickly swept Taz off her feet with the best way to a woman’s heart…home cooking!

We are so fortunate to have been a part of Taz & Guy’s marriage.  They are two of the warmest, most sincere people we’ve ever met, and they’ve got such big hearts!  One of the biggest reasons we love our job is that we get to meet such awesome people like Taz & Guy.

One Shot ~ Rachel and Jared

Lucky us!  We had two fun play dates in a row…yesterday, Rachel and Dane…and today, Rachel and Jared!  These two are super sweet and tons of fun!  We definitely had our hands full chasing after them as they frolicked around town.  Here’s one shot of Rachel and Jared!

What a day!  For San Diego, this was an unexpectedly chilly and super breezy day.  We had the chance to enjoy this day with a gorgeous couple, Rachel and Dane.  Here is one killer shot of them, enjoying the sun, the breeze, San Diego, and looking simply amazing!

Wedding ~ Annie & Ty ~ Costa Mesa, CA

This weekend we attended the wedding of our friends Annie & Ty.  They had a beautiful ceremony at the Wyndham Orange County, set on a lake, in the sunshine, with instrumental Beatles songs playing throughout.  It was incredibly romantic and brought tears to my eyes as Annie walked down the aisle towards Ty.

We then all headed over to king Harbor Seafood in Garden Grove to party.  I must say, this wedding had the best food!  Crab meat shark fin soup, honey-glazed walnut shrimp, lobster, Peking duck, abalone with mushroom and sea cucumber, steamed striped bass, fried rice, fresh fruit, and amazing white wedding cake with fresh strawberries!!!

Thanks for having us Ty & Annie, we love you guys!

Happy Halloween!

This year’s Halloween was absurdly fabulous!  I drove up to Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood to board my connecting flight aboard the lovely Tranny Air!  Check out these beautiful flight attendants, their ravishing captain, and their hot tarmac guys (anyone know the real job title for this?).

No detail was left unattended, Tranny Air was the complete package.  From homemade beverage carts plastered with the Tranny Air logo, to individual bags of salted peanuts also bearing the logo, to seatbelt and oxygen mask demonstrations, to coffee and cocktails, it was nothing but first class down the boulevard aboard Tranny Air.  The girls couldn’t walk 10 feet without cameras flashing them at every angle.  What a night!

The Tranny Air uniforms were all designed and handmade by the flight attendants themselves.  Wigs were primped, preened, and Aquanetted to perfection.  The girls trotted down the street amidst cries of delight as passerbys cheered them on.  But they were all business, making sure everyone’s seat backs and tray tables were in the upright and locked position.

Where am I in all of this?  I was the Official Flight Recorder this evening for Tranny Air, also known as “The Black Box.”

Photographer Headshots

Just the other day, I had the chance to shoot with a bunch of fellow photographers out in Heritage Park.  The goal of the day was to get some fantastic headshots of each other, because for some reason, none of us has a great headshot!  Here are just a few of the images I got.
